What is Umrah?
Umrah is a visit to the Kaaba in Makkah that can be performed at any time of year. It has four essentials: entering Ihram, Tawaf (seven circuits of the Kaaba), Sa'i (seven trips between Safa and Marwah), and cutting the hair.
Umrah and Hajj — the difference
Umrah is often called the 'lesser pilgrimage'. Unlike Hajj, which takes place on fixed days of Dhul-Hijjah, Umrah can be performed at any time of the year. It is a deeply rewarding act of worship and, for many, the journey of a lifetime.
The four essentials
Every Umrah is built on four steps performed in order: entering the state of Ihram with the intention, performing Tawaf around the Kaaba seven times, walking Sa'i between the hills of Safa and Marwah seven times, and finally shaving or trimming the hair to exit Ihram.
Common questions
Can Umrah be performed at any time?
Yes. Umrah can be performed throughout the year. Many prefer the cooler months or the blessed month of Ramadan, when its reward is greatly increased.
